Brother and sister who lost mum to suicide found dead after dad died from cancer

A brother and sister who lost their mum to suicide as toddlers have been found dead together just two weeks after their dad died from cancer.

Chris and Nicola Long, both in their 40s, were found dead at the home they had shared with beloved father Chris before his death, aged 70.

The pair - described by neighbours as reclusive - were said to have still been struggling emotionally 40 years after mum Margaret drowned herself in a local river when they were children.

Dad Chris brought up his son and daughter as a single parent after Margaret's suicide and the trio hid away from other relatives, according to family members.

The circumstances around the siblings' deaths remain unclear.

Neighbour Yvonne Becket, 58, said the family tended to stay inside their home on n an estate near Norwich, Norfolk.

She said: ""Chris [the dad] said they didn't deal with the death of the mother. It's the only thing he complained about.

"A couple of weeks back he was walking down the road with a suitcase. I haven't seen him since then.

"The last time I saw the whole family was about a month ago.

"I was shocked when I heard the news and then they said the father wasn't there.

"I just feel sorry for them, they were a nice enough family."

Today two police officers remained outside the house, which has been cordoned off from the public.

Nicola and Chris' uncle Dick Forster, 69, described the news as "heartbreaking" and said the family were "reclusive".

Dick said: "They've had a hard life, their mother died when they were young.

"Chris fell out with the family. The kids never went anywhere, they were recluses."

Their aunt Irene Northfield said the whole family were devoted to Chris and his children but that they chose to keep themselves away.

Irene said: "All the family were devoted to them. Everyone made attempts with them but they wouldn't let you [help them].

"Everyone loved them but they wanted to keep within themselves. Because they were adults there was nothing you could do."

Norfolk Police said that post-mortem examinations and formal identification procedures were yet to take place.

Detective Inspector Matt Stuart said: "Officers are continuing to make enquiries to establish the circumstances leading up to the man and woman's death.

"However, we do believe this is an isolated incident and we are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with it."
