Brother and sister's babies share a birthday despite due dates being five weeks apart

Sibling rivalry can be fierce and for one brother and sister it meant a race to be parents.

That's because despite due dates five weeks apart, Atherton brother and sister Darren, 25, and Jade Callaghan's baby sons decided to appear on the same day.

Miss Callaghan, 23, was expecting her son in early June but as the weeks passed, there was no sign of him. Meanwhile Mr Callaghan's partner Jade Leicester was not due until July.

Then on June 25, two weeks before her due date, Miss Leicester went into labour. In an unexpected twist, and three weeks after she was expecting to, Miss Callaghan also went into labour.

Much to the annoyance of Miss Callaghan, her brother's baby Harvey James Callaghan came first at 4.46pm, with her boy Dennis William Callaghan arriving four-and-a-half hours later at 9.16pm.

"I was fuming to be honest that they had their's first," she laughed.

"It's absolutely crazy that they were born on the same day though, especially with how I was overdue and their's came early.

"It's been all good so far, I've found it pretty easy.

"The cousins have seen a lot of each other since they've been born, Darren has been round most days.

"Dennis has been very quiet. He's keeping well. He only screams when he's hungry!"

Mr Callaghan has taken fatherhood in his stride and found the humour in the fact that Harvey was born first.

He said: "Jade was a bit put off because she thought Dennis was going to be born first but we beat her at the post!

"I'm over the moon about having a baby on the same day as my sister though.

"The experience I'm having up to now is a pleasure, it's the best thing that has ever happened to me and to share it with my sister on that special day was even better. Now we have something in common and this has brought us closer together.

"Our boys can grow up together now as well."
