Broomhouse Road incident: 17-year-old in serious condition after being knocked down on pavement

A 17-year-old girl is in a serious condition in hospital after being knocked down as she walked along the pavement in Edinburgh.

Emergency services rushed to Broomhouse Road at 9am on Monday, at the roundabout near Sighthill park.

Police said the teenager had been walking along the pavement when a Renault Clio, being driven by an 85-year-old man, mounted the kerb and hit her.

She suffered "significant" injuries to her legs and is currently in a serious condition at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

The road was closed for three hours following the incident, which left the driver of the Clio unharmed.

Inspector Roger Park from the Road Policing Unit in Edinburgh said: "This has been a serious collision and the female pedestrian could be left with life-changing injuries as a result.

"We would urge anyone who was on Broomhouse Road on Monday morning and saw what happened to contact police immediately, if they haven't already done so.

"In particular, we are keen to trace the occupants of a blue Vauxhall Vivaro van, which we believe was in the area at the time and may have witnessed the incident occur.

"These individuals, or anyone else with any other relevant information, should get in touch with us as a matter of urgency."

Anyone with information can contact the Road Policing Unit in Edinburgh via 101, quoting incident number 820 of the 2 September.
