Brookside star Louis Emerick shattered as brother Jimmy dies unexpectedly

Actor Louis Emerick is mourning the loss of his brother.

The Brookside star, 61, took to social media this week to share his upset and heartbreak at losing his brother.

Louis - famed for his role as Mick Johnson - uploaded a snap of himself alongside Jimmy and his other sibling David where he shared the news that Jimmy died.

"Good morning all happy @Ballstocancer #TBT the only #Tbt pic I could post today," the soap legend typed.

He continued: "Here with my 2elder brothers, Jimmy and David, from 2015, sadly, Jimmy (on the right) got his heavenly wings yesterday.

"So, a bitter, but more sweet today, that I have So many great memories, Goodnight Rkid."

Following the post, several of Louis fans sent him messages of support.

One fan typed: "So sorry to hear about your brother, I don’t know you in person but I feel your heartbreak x."

Another added: "Sorry to hear that Lou. RIP Jimmy. Love to the family xx."

More echoed: "Bless you Louis. Sending much love to you and yours X" and "So sorry to hear your news yesterday Louis. Sending you much love and condolences xxx remember the good times."

Louis played Brookside’s taxi driver and shopkeeper Mick from 1989 to 2001 and cut his theatrical teeth with the Contact Theatre in Oxford Road and Genesis Theatre in the 1970s and 80s.

He credits his first soap with gaining much-needed experience, saying: "I did 12 years on Brookie, and I loved it. It was a great cast, great company, great vibe. The whole thing was brilliant. It taught me a lot about being in front of a camera."

He played a police officer in Last of the Summer Wine and starred alongside Bond actor Daniel Craig in the 2004 British gangster film Layer Cake.

For several years he starred in a stage version of The Full Monty before bagging a stint on Coronation Street as Liz McDonald's love interest in 2018.
