Brooks Koepka wins WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational with dominant final round

Brooks Koepka showed up 50 minutes before his final round tee time Sunday at TPC Southwind.

The Rory McIlroy of Saturday’s 62 was absent all day.

Koepka took the lead early in Sunday’s round then coasted to a victory over Webb Simpson, Marc Leishman and a slumping McIlroy.

The Florida State alum (-16 for the tournament) birdied the par-5 3rd but took control of the tournament for good on the 5th with an excellent approach that left a short birdie putt, which he made.

Koepka would birdie the 6th, while McIlroy would cobble together a front nine with nine straight pars but not quite with the ease and demeanor as his playing partner.

Koepka birdied the 10th and 17th, coasting otherwise with little pressure from others.

Simpson posted a final-round 64 to slip into second at -13, but he was never in danger of catching Koepka.
