Brooks Koepka, Under Armour among those making big donations in response to coronavirus

Brooks Koepka announced Thursday he’s making a hefty donation to help others in his community during the global public health crisis.

“I know these are hard times and we have so much uncertainty around us. I’m thinking of everyone who is being impacted by this pandemic,” Koepka said in a video he posted on Twitter. “I want to do my part to help during this stressful time.”

He’s donating $100,000 to his Brooks Koepka Foundation that will go directly to the Community Foundation’s COVID-19 Response Fund for Palm Beach and Martin Counties.

It’s another example of the golf community giving back during an extraordinary time. Also on Thursday, Under Armour announced it would be donating $1 million to Feeding America to support hunger relief efforts.

“In the United States, 30 million students, 80,000 of whom are based in our hometown of Baltimore, receive lunch every school day throughout the year,” UA CEO Patrik Frisk wrote in a letter.

“With current school closures and quarantines in place, help is needed now for students and families. Our donation efforts will be focused on reaching the cities where Under Armour teammates live and work, including Baltimore, Maryland; San Francisco and Rialto, California; Nashville, Tennessee; Austin, Texas; and Portland, Oregon.”

Under Armour also announced a 30-day Healthy at Home fitness challenge on its MyFitnessPal and MapMyRun platforms, to encourage individuals and families at home to stay healthy and physically active.

If users sign up and take the Challenge by March 23, UA will donate up to $1 million in combination of monetary donation and product “to support Good Sports’ efforts in ensuring youth sport leagues have the necessary equipment, footwear, and apparel.”
