Brooks Koepka commits to Mayakoba Golf Classic, 2020 PGA Tour finale

The Mayakoba Golf Classic is the final event on the PGA Tour’s 2020 calendar, and Brooks Koepka isn’t about to miss out on the action.

Koepka, 30, announced his intention to join a deep field containing 15 of the world’s top 50 players on Friday, including Masters champion and World No. 1 Dustin Johnson. Other notable participants include Justin Thomas (No. 3), Tony Finau (No. 19), Abraham Ancer (No. 22) Viktor Hovland (No. 24) and Jason Kokrak (No. 25).

“The addition of Brooks to the field is tremendous for this tournament and certainly ensures that this will be the best field assembled in our 14-year history,” said tournament director Joe Mazzeo. “A worldwide television audience will be focused on Mayakoba in just a few weeks as the final official PGA Tour event of the calendar year is staged here at El Camaleón.”

Currently ranked No. 12, Koepka owns four major titles: consecutive U.S. Opens in 2017 and 2018, and back-to-back PGA Championships in 2018 and 2019. The two-time Ryder Cup player has a total of seven PGA Tour wins and is making his second appearance in the Mayakoba. The former World No. 1 missed the cut in 2014 on a sponsor’s exemption.

The Mayakoba Golf Classic will return to El Camaleón Golf Club in Playa del Carmen, Dec. 3-6.
