Police say James detonated two smoke grenades and fired 33 shots aboard an N train car as it neared the 36th Street station in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Hospitals reported 29 people were treated for either gunshot wounds, smoke inhalation or other injuries in the ensuing mayhem. Investigators believe James drove to New York City from Philadelphia in a rented U-Haul van, leaving the key behind at the crime scene, along with unused smoke grenades, a gun and items of clothing. James’ motive is unknown, but a YouTube channel that appeared to belong to James contained numerous videos of him going on bizarre, profanity-filled rants against much of society. YouTube deleted the channel Wednesday.
What To Watch For
James faces a federal terrorism charge and is set to make an initial court appearance Thursday. It is not clear if he has an attorney.
