Brooklyn Nine-Nine has finally returned to television screens in the US (following a change in network) and the reviews have been published.
The overall consensus seems te be that, despite the moving from FOX to NBC, little has changed.
USA Today says there’s still the same “heart and humour” that made the show so beloved by fans, noting that the season six premiere picks up exactly where season five concluded, when Jake (Andy Smaberg) and Amy (Melissa Fumero) finally married.
“For anyone worried about the show changing tacts for its new bosses, fear not — it’s still the same show and still great,” Ben Travers writes for IndieWire.
“But all that time worrying does provide a fresh opportunity to appreciate what makes the show tick, and why it resonates so strongly six seasons later. In short, producer and showrunner Dan Goor makes every second count.”
Mashable’s Proma Khosla says: “The new season is in no way revelatory, but more of the same – it’s just that the same was already so damn good. The standard here is inclusively and warmth.
“It has been a kind, funny sanctuary for its viewers since 2013 and welcomes new blood on a new network. We’re just happy to be back.”
In a four-star review, Nick Harley writes for Den of Geek: “Brooklyn Nine-Nine impressed out of the gate with how lived-in its ensemble felt, and sixth seasons in, that strength has only intensified.”
Writing for Polygon, Karen Han compliments the humour while also saying that the show looks to be “gearing up to do more than just make us laugh”.
Season six will not premiere in the UK for some time, but it's expected that E4 will once again pick up the show. Meanwhile, season five will soon be reaching UK Netflix, on 8 March.
