While the species remains unfamiliar to many, Brookfield Zoo Chicago has quietly led conservation and research efforts for nearly a decade. The zoo is currently the only facility in the United States where the public can see a pangolin up close.
These shy, nocturnal creatures, unique as the only mammals covered in scales, are housed in the Zoo’s Habitat Africa.
Pangolins are listed as Endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
