Brooke Shields: Jealous Andre Agassi destroyed grand-slam trophies

Nov. 10--Andre Agassi apparently has some jealousy issues.

At least the now-retired tennis star did back when he was dating Brooke Shields, the actress writes in her coming memoir "There Was a Little Girl: The Real Story of My Mother and Me."

So much so, Shields alleges, that a certain scene she appeared in as a guest on the sitcom "Friends" caused Agassi to fly into a fit of rage and destroy many of his tennis trophies, including the one from his 1992 Wimbledon victory and 1994 U.S. Open triumph.

The offending scene? One where Shields, playing an obsessive soap-opera fan, licks the hand of actor Matt LeBlanc, whose "Friends" character, Joey, was supposedly starring in "General Hospital."

And if that sounds in the least bit sexy to you, just watch the actual scene: It's not.

It's not even supposed to be. But that's not how Agassi, watching from a soundstage, took it, according to Shields.

She says Agassi told her she "made him look like a fool," then he took off in his car and drove all the way to his home in Las Vegas. But he apparently didn't cool off during the long drive.

"Upon arrival he systematically smashed and destroyed every single trophy he had won, including Wimbledon and the U.S. Open, never mind all the others," Shields wrote.

Shields and Agassi were married in 1997 and divorced in 1999.

As for the trophies, Agassi went on to win six more Grand Slams, including another U.S. Open in 1999. But hopefully he was able to repair the one from Wimbledon because he never won another one of those.
