Brooke Morris: Body found in river in search for woman, 22, who vanished on night out

A body has been found in the search for a missing rugby player who disappeared after a night out.

Brooke Morris, 22, disappeared after a night out in Merthyr Tydfil, south Wales.

South Wales Police searching the River Taff discovered the body of a woman today.

Although formal identification has not yet taken place, Brooke's family have been made aware.

A spokesman for the police force said: "Police officers carrying out searches of rivers and waterways near Trelewis as part of the investigation into the disappearance of 22 year-old Brooke Morris, sadly located the body of a woman in a stretch of the River Taff earlier this afternoon.

"Formal identification has not yet taken place, but Brooke’s family have been informed and continue to be supported by officers."

Brooke was last seen at around 2.30am on Saturday October 12.

Family, of Merthyr Tydfil, grew increasingly concerned for the woman and joined a huge search for her.

Using CCTV and descriptions from witnesses, they now believe Ms Morris, who plays for Nelson RFC, was last seen heading towards a bridge that leads to Treharris.

On Tuesday more than 100 volunteers gathered to continue the search for Ms Morris and focused around the waterways and undergrowth near to her home.

Western and Central Brecon Mountain Rescue teams said they were called to help police search "high priority areas".

Speaking previously, Treharris councillor Sherelle Jago thanked the community for their effort in the search, which is being co-ordinated from Treharris Phoenix RFC.

Police also said they searched "dense undergrowth and some fast flowing waterways in that area together with railway tracks" near the rural town.
