Bronx serial killer's chilling response to Piers Morgan's question about hurting children

"Are you capable of hurting a child?"

Piers Morgan poses the disturbing question to the man sitting opposite him - a paedophile who was found guilty of murdering at least three girls, two of which were children, but maintains his innocence to this day.

Alejandro 'Alex' Henriquez, also known as The Bronx Serial Killer, committed the killings from 1989 to 1990 in New York's Bronx district. He was 31 when he was sentenced to 75 years in prison.

His first victim, Shamiro Bello, was just 14 when she was raped and bludgeoned to death on July 3 1989.

Just over 11 months later, he killed Lisa Ann Rodriquez, 21, and his youngest victim, 10-year-old Jessica Guzman on October 17 1990.

Henriquez is also considered a suspect, but hasn't been charged in three other deaths - Heriberto Marrero, 15, his niece Nilda Cartagena, 13, and Annette Rosario, 17.

Piers speaks to Henriquez in his Serial Killer series, which is now available on Netflix, as he tries to wade through his persistent lies.

Throughout the interview, however, Hernandez attempts to use his superficial charm to try and persuade Piers that he was "set up".

But his response to Piers' question about hurting children is chilling.

Rather than responding to the question, Henriquez repeats it and pauses, as if to give himself time to think about the appropriate way to respond: "Am I capable of hurting a child? No, why would i want to hurt a child?"

Giving his reaction to the response, FBI profiler James R. Fitzgerald says: "Most people would say 'No!' He hesitated for a fraction of a second and his first reply was, 'Am I capable of hurting a child?'

Henriquez maintains his innocence to this day - but has been dubbed a lying psychopath (ITV)

"It puts the question back to Piers, in so many words, and then of course he denies it plays off that sort of scenario from there. But why not come out and say 'No, I would never do that.'

"With a psychopath, the lying syntaxes have to become aligned with one another so that the proper lie comes out at the proper time.

(ITV)

"Psychopaths like control - they don't want to be controlled, they want to control others. To them it makes sense because it is what got them this far in life in sort of a successful method of surviving."

Within the interview, which was filmed in 2018, Henriquez describes his biggest imperfection as "magnetic to women".

"It's sad and embarrassing to say, but I was married and I had lots of girlfriends, that was my biggest problem. But I guess as a man I did things I wasn't supposed to do," he says. "I had nice clothes and nice cars. Women are attracted to that. It's like a magnet."

He also makes a shocking remark when Piers asks whether he had been targeted in prison for killing children.

"No, you get comments," he says. "There are a lot of worse crimes in here."

When Piers picks up on that detail, Henriquez backtracks and says: "There is nothing worse than taking an innocent child's life."
