Brondby row escalates ahead of Rangers clash as fans claim police fired tear gas at kids

Brondby fans have hit back at Danish police and claimed they fired tear gas at kids during violent scenes at the Copenhagen derby.

Authorities had admitted drawing guns at the weekend clash was marred by trouble.

They say officers were acting in self defence and claimed there were 61 incidents of cops being attacked, while also Brondby supporters of charging the FC Copenhagen bus.

But now a supporters' group have responded as the row escalated again just days' ahead of Rangers ' upcoming Europa League visit to the city.

They insist police tactics were heavy handed.

A statement from fans group Brondby Support said: "The arrangements made by police for this game completely failed.

"The result was that our fans - including several families with children - without their own knowledge were led directly by the police into the middle of a risk zone.

"This meant that a lot of ordinary football fans, including families with children and a large number of the guests and volunteers in Brondby Support's clubhouse, were hit by tear gas, despite the fact that they just followed advice and recommendations from the club and the police about which access routes they should follow.

"The tear gas hit everyone in the area including the fans, the families with children who were seeking to get away from the confrontations. It was unacceptable."

Steven Gerrard 's side triumphed 2-0 in the reverse group stage clash at Ibrox via goals from Leon Balogun and Kemar Roofe.
