Broncos WR Juwann Winfree improving with each game

The Broncos traded up in the sixth round of April’s draft to select little-known Colorado wide receiver Juwann Winfree. The move was a surprise at the time but Winfree has proven this summer that he was worth trading up for.

“I felt I made a good progression throughout camp,” Winfree said Monday. “This week my focus was to get better and to continue to show why I deserve to be out here.

“I’m still not where I need to be, but I feel I’m getting there in each game throughout the preseason and that’s what I want to continue to do, continue to thrive and continue to get better, so it’s been a learning process.”

Winfree (6-2, 210 pounds) has caught four passes for 58 yards and a touchdown through four preseason games. He has also stepped up on special teams and recorded a big tackle against the Rams last week.

Winfree’s willingness to play special teams will certainly help his chances of making the team. Denver will trim its roster down to 53 players on Saturday and the rookie out of Colorado appears likely to make the squad.
