Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton left the practice field with trainers after appearing to suffer an injury on Thursday, according to KMGH-TV’s Troy Renck.
Sutton was practicing against air (no defenders) and fell to the ground “awkwardly on his right hand” after trying to make a one-handed catch, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis. Sutton was favoring his right shoulder after the play.
The Broncos have already lost defensive star Von Miller to a serious ankle injury this week. Potentially losing Sutton would be a devasting blow for the offense.
Sutton, the No. 1 receiver on Denver’s depth chart, made the Pro Bowl as an alternate last season after catching 72 passes for 1,112 yards and six touchdowns. Entering his third year in the NFL, Sutton owns 114 career receptions for 1,816 yards and 10 touchdowns.
The top WRs behind Sutton on the depth chart are Tim Patrick and Jerry Jeudy. The Broncos also have DaeSean Hamilton, KJ Hamler and Tyrie Cleveland on the 53-man roster. Fred Brown and Trinity Benson are also available on the 16-man practice squad.
