Broncos WR Courtland Sutton has ‘a great feel for the game’

After earning a Pro Bowl berth as an alternate last season, Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton will look to show even more improvement in 2020.

“Courtland [is] obviously a very dynamic player,” offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur said during a Zoom conference call with reporters on June 11. “He can make plays down the field, which I think is so important for a receiver of his size. He runs good short and intermediate routes as well.

“I got to meet him for the first time this past weekend and I’m really looking forward to working with him. I’ve seen him obviously every morning on the Zoom meetings. He’s got great questions. He’s got a great feel for the game. I’m anticipating he’s going to kind of pick up where he left off a year ago.”

This year, Sutton will have more experience with quarterback Drew Lock. After having played with him for five games last season, Sutton got in some work with Lock at a Denver-area park this offseason.

Sutton caught 72 passes for 1,112 yards and six touchdowns while playing with three different QBs last season. After the Broncos added Jerry Jeudy and KJ Hamler during the draft, defenses shouldn’t be able to double-team Sutton, which should help him improve on his totals from 2019.
