Broncos won’t trade linebacker Von Miller

After the Denver Broncos started the 2019 season with a 0-4 record, some fans and pundits suggested the team should trade superstar outside linebacker Von Miller and acquire draft picks to build for the future.

That won’t happen.

Miller is not on the trade block, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Sunday (via NFL.com). The deadline for teams to complete trades this season is Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 2 p.m. MT.

Besides the fact that he is the team’s best player, trading Miller would also be foolish because of the “dead money” salary cap implications. Miller has a salary cap hit of $25.125 million this year and will have a cap hit of $25.625 million in 2020, according to Spotrac.com.

On Sunday evening, KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis reported that the Broncos have not had any trade talks involving wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders or cornerback Chris Harris, either. Klis did note, though, that Denver may consider moving players later this month if they don’t win a few games leading up to the trade deadline.

Before the deadline, the Broncos (1-4) will face the Tennessee Titans (2-3), Kansas City Chiefs (4-1) and Indianapolis Colts (3-2).
