Yet another free agent quarterback is off the board.
Sam Darnold has agreed to a one-year, $10 million contract with the Minnesota Vikings, according to multiple reports. The Denver Broncos expressed interest in Darnold, but his price tag ultimately proved to be too expensive.
Veteran quarterbacks continue to be snatched up in free agency, leaving few options for the Broncos to choose from.
Darnold (Vikings), Jameis Winston (Cleveland Browns), Mitchell Trubisky (Buffalo Bills), Jacoby Brissett (New England Patriots), Tyrod Taylor (New York Jets), Mac Jones (Jacksonville Jaguars), Gardner Minshew (Las Vegas Raiders), Marcus Mariota (Washington Commanders), Kirk Cousins (Atlanta Falcons) and Baker Mayfield (Tampa Buccaneers) have found homes for 2024 while the Broncos continue seeking a Russell Wilson replacement. (Wilson has also found a new home with the Pittsburgh Steelers.)
Jimmy Garoppolo, Ryan Tannehill and Mason Rudolph have been name-dropped by KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis. CBS Sports has also mentioned Zach Wilson as a QB being considered by the Broncos. Justin Fields is expected to be available via trade, but there have been no reports of Denver showing interest in Fields (so far). Drew Lock is also available, but he seems unlikely to return.
The Broncos also hold the 12th overall pick in the NFL draft this year. Even if the team adds a veteran, Denver is expected to draft a QB in April.
