Broncos will start QB Joe Flacco against Seahawks

The Broncos will start Joe Flacco at quarterback against the Seahawks on Thursday, coach Vic Fangio confirmed after practice today. Fangio also said superstar outside linebacker Von Miller will play.

Thursday’s game is considered part of “Week 1” of the NFL preseason, but it will be Denver’s second exhibition game of the summer. Last week, the Broncos defeated the Falcons 14-10 in the Hall of Fame Game.

Regular starters like Flacco and Miller did not play in the Hall of Fame Game and will likely receive limited snaps against Seattle.

After Flacco plays a series or so, backup Kevin Hogan will get a few drives before the offense is turned over to rookie Drew Lock. Denver wants to get Lock as many reps as possible so he can continue to improve, so expect him to play a large chunk of Thursday’s game.

Undrafted rookie Brett Rypien may get cleanup duty at quarterback depending on how the game plays out.
