Broncos will rest most starters against Rams

During his pre-practice media availability Thursday, Broncos coach Vic Fangio said that most of the team’s starters will not play against the Rams on Saturday evening.

“It’s our fourth game, not our third,” Fangio said. I just feel like that it’s the best thing to do for our team right now.”

Most NFL teams have played in only two games so far but Denver has already played in three because they participated in the Hall of Fame Game on Aug. 1. Fangio doesn’t want to risk any starters getting injured.

With Joe Flacco not playing, the Broncos will start Kevin Hogan at quarterback. Flacco and the rest of Denver’s starters will now turn their attention toward preparing for the regular season.

“Obviously, we have a little bit of time to prepare,” Flacco said Thursday. “When we come out here for practice we usually, at this point, going against our defense a little bit and going against some looks that maybe our coaches think we’re going to need over the next couple of weeks.

“You start getting your mind right and ready for the regular season and start to prepare and such.”

The Broncos will face the Raiders on “Monday Night Football” in Week 1. The game is scheduled to begin at 8:20 p.m. MT on Sept. 9.
