Broncos will host QB Kyler Murray on pre-draft visit

Denver Broncos general manager John Elway confirmed at the NFL owners meetings Sunday that the team will host Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray on a pre-draft visit, according to The Athletic’s Nicki Jhabvala.

Murray (5-10, 207 pounds) has been compared to Russell Wilson by NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein. A Heisman Trophy winner, Murray could become the first athlete in pro sports history to be selected in the first rounds of the MLB and NFL drafts.

Despite being selected in the MLB draft, Murray has committed to play football and he is expected to go early in April’s draft (perhaps as early as first overall). Murray is unlikely to still be on the board when Denver selects 10th overall but the team is wise to do their due diligence.

After sitting behind Baker Mayfield in 2017, Murray completed 69.0 percent of his passes for 4,361 yards with 42 touchdowns against 7 interceptions in 2018. He is widely considered one of the top quarterback prospects in this year’s class.

“Murray’s size may present some limitations, but he has the elite athleticism, speed, arm talent, and passing traits to be a winning starter in the NFL in a spread/run pass option (RPO) system, stylistically similar to Seahawks’ Russell Wilson,” Draft Wire’s Gavino Borquez wrote of the QB in February.

Nashville will host the 2019 draft, which will begin April 25.
