Broncos will host QB Drew Lock on pre-draft visit

Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins isn’t the only quarterback that the Denver Broncos will soon host on a pre-draft visit. The Broncos have also scheduled a visit with Missouri’s Drew Lock, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis.

Behind Haskins and Oklahoma’s Kyler Murray, Lock is widely considered the third-best quarterback in this year’s class. There’s at least a decent chance that he could still be on the board when Denver goes on the clock with the 10th overall pick in April’s draft.

Lock (6-4, 228 pounds) ran a 40-yard dash in 4.69 seconds and the 20-yard shuttle in 4.12 seconds at the NFL combine earlier this offseason. NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein has compared him to Matthew Stafford, who was the first overall pick in the 2009 NFL draft.

During his four years with the Tigers, Lock completed 56.9 percent of his passes for 12,193 yards with 99 touchdown passes against 39 interceptions.

“He will require mechanical work, but he checks boxes for his size, athleticism, arm talent, and appetite for football,” Draft Wire’s Gavino Borquez wrote of Lock last month. “His pro transition will require a little time, and although he might not be perfect in every area, the ingredients are there for Lock to develop into an NFL starter, ideally in a vertical passing offense.”

There has been much speculation this offseason that Broncos general manager John Elway is a big fan of Lock. Even if that is the case, there’s no guarantee that Denver will spend an early-round pick on a QB this year.

The Broncos seem to believe Joe Flacco still has several years of good football left in him and the team considered signing Blake Bortles to serve as Flacco’s backup. That doesn’t sound like a team that’s planning to go all-in on a young quarterback prospect.
