Broncos vs. Titans series history: Denver has won 4 of 6 vs. Tennessee

The Denver Broncos will face the Tennessee Titans in Week 6 in a battle of two teams that don’t see each other often and are both trying to hang around any way they can in the 2019 season.

The Broncos and Titans have played each other 41 times across their histories, but that dates back to when the Titans were known as the Houston Oilers.

The Oilers had a 19-13-1 all-time advantage over Denver, but the Broncos took two of the three meetings the teams had in the postseason, eliminating them from the divisional round in 1987 and 1991.

Since moving to Nashville, the Broncos have won four of six meetings against the Titans, beating them by 14 or more points in three of those contests.

Both of the Titans’ wins in that same time frame came by only a field goal, including a 13-10 victory in the teams’ most recent clash back in December 2016.

Looking back at the statistics from that game, it’s hard to imagine how the Broncos lost.

Trevor Siemian passed for 334 yards and the team had two 100-yard receivers in Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders. In addition, Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota completed only six of the 20 passes he attempted and gained just 88 yards through the air.

But the Titans were able to get out to a 13-0 halftime lead and the Broncos, despite having numerous chances, just couldn’t get the lead. Had the Broncos won that game, they would have eventually made the playoffs that year.

The Tennessee franchise has lost its last five trips to Denver, where Sunday’s game will be played. The last time it won in Denver was all the way back in October 1987. That game took place during the players’ strike that season and featured replacement players.
