Broncos’ updated salary cap space after Joe Flacco trade

After acquiring veteran Joe Flacco in a trade with the Ravens, the Broncos have inherited the quarterback’s contract. The move will become official when the new league year begins on March 13.

Denver will not try to restructure the QB’s contract, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis. Flacco’s current contract has three years remaining with a team option after the 2019 season.

Flacco is set to have a salary cap hit of $18.5 million this year. Before cutting any players, the Broncos were set to have around $44 million in 2019 salary cap space. So after trading for Flacco, Denver is projected to have around $25.5 million in salary cap space.

It should be noted that the Broncos can create a lot more cap space with some cap-saving moves this offseason. Denver’s biggest cap hits in 2019 include Emmanuel Sanders (over $12 million), Brandon Marshall ($9 million) and Darian Stewart ($6.4 million). There’s no guarantee those players will be back with the team this season.
