Broncos’ updated salary cap space after Case Keenum trade

After taking on quarterback Joe Flacco’s contract and releasing safety Darian Stewart, the Broncos are projected to have about $22,691,954 in 2019 salary cap space. More money is on the way.

By agreeing to trade quarterback Case Keenum to the Redskins, Denver is freeing up an additional $14 million in salary cap space. That brings their 2019 cap space total to about $36,691,954.

The team’s cap space total could get even higher in the coming days. The Broncos are expected to part ways with linebacker Brandon Marshall, a move that would free up $4,843,750 in cap space. Such a move would bring Denver’s free cap space total to around $41,535,704.

Having more than $40 million to work with will give general manager John Elway the ability to make some splash moves in free agency — and more cap-saving cuts could be on the way, creating even more cap space.

Teams can begin negotiating with free agents on Monday, March 11. The new league year and signings will begin Wednesday, March 13.
