Broncos’ updated 2020 draft picks after Emmanuel Sanders trade

After agreeing to trade wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders to the San Francisco 49ers, the Denver Broncos are poised to have five selections within the first three rounds of the 2020 NFL draft.

It’s hard to tell exactly how many selections the Broncos will have in next year’s draft because some recent trades included conditional picks. Here’s our unofficial estimation of how the team’s picks sort out:

Round 1: own pick
Round 2: own pick
Round 3: own pick
Round 3: via Pittsburgh Steelers (2019 draft trade)
Round 3: via San Francisco 49ers (Sanders trade)
Round 4: own pick
Round 4: via 49ers (Sanders trade)
Round 6: via Washington Redskins (Case Keenum trade)
Round 7: via New England Patriots (Duke Dawson trade)

Things are a little complicated because the Broncos traded a sixth-round pick to the Patriots in exchange for cornerback Duke Dawson and a seventh-round selection. It’s unclear if Denver traded their own sixth-round pick or Washington’s sixth-round pick from the Keenum trade.

If things are sorted out like we have projected above, the Broncos will have nine selections in the 2020 NFL draft before receiving any potential compensatory selections. Denver might receive a late-round comp pick for losing offensive lineman Billy Turner during free agency.

The 2020 NFL draft will take place in Las Vegas from April 23-25.
