The fullback position is a bit of a lost art in today’s NFL but a handful of teams still have one on their rosters. One of those teams is the Denver Broncos.
Though Andy Janovich has become a fan favorite for his style of play, the fullback the team signed as an undrafted free agent has the ability to do the same.

Aston was used primarily as a lead blocker in college, helping power a solid rushing attack for the Panthers. He only had 28 rushing attempts but scored touchdowns on six of those. He can also catch the ball out of the backfield, a must for a good fullback. He caught 45 passes in college.
If you look up Aston’s name, the most immediate reports you will come across talk about his giant neck. You’ll easily catch that just by taking a quick glance, but it’s also easy to see that he just looks like a football player.
Prior to his college days, he was a linebacker and felt that was the position that fit him best. Coaches at Pitt convinced him to give fullback a try and he showed some offensive ability combined with the attacking style of a linebacker.
Aston posted 30 reps of 225 pounds and should easily be one of the team’s strongest players right off the bat.

Janovich is becoming a fixture in Denver’s offense and he makes plays on special teams as well. Since no team out there would carry multiple fullbacks, Aston will have his work cut out for him to take the job.
That said, this guy is the type of player that you want on your team and if he doesn’t catch on with the Broncos, he would almost certainly get a shot somewhere else due to his strength and ability as a blocker alone.
It would be ideal if the Broncos can find a way to keep him around on the practice squad, but it would come as no surprise to see another team out there sign him right off of it.
