Broncos trade up for QB Drew Lock in this NFL mock draft

In his latest four-round 2019 NFL mock draft with trades, Draft Wire’s Luke Easterling has the Denver Broncos trading up with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to select Missouri quarterback Drew Lock fifth overall.

“I’ve got a gut feeling Lock is John Elway’s guy in this QB class, which means he won’t wait around to see if he falls to No. 10 overall,” Easterling wrote of the projected trade. “Instead, the Broncos ship their picks in the second and third rounds to Tampa Bay to ensure they get the quarterback of their choice.”

Many Broncos fans may be wary of such an idea after the team traded up for quarterback Paxton Lynch in 2016. Then again, just because a strategy didn’t work out in the past doesn’t mean the same strategy is guaranteed to fail again. Elway has swung and missed on QBs before and he’ll likely continue swinging until he hits a home run or gets run out of town.

Denver did not make any selections in the second or third rounds of this mock because they dealt those picks to Tampa. In the fourth round, the Broncos selected Texas A&M defensive lineman Daylon Mack (No. 106) and Florida offensive lineman Martez Ivey (No. 118).
