Broncos trade 6th-round pick to Patriots for CB Duke Dawson

The Denver Broncos have traded a sixth-round draft pick to the New England Patriots in exchange for a seventh-round draft pick and cornerback Duke Dawson, Henry McKenna of Patriots Wire reported Friday.

It’s a low-risk move for Denver with potential for high reward.

Dawson (5-11, 197 pounds) was selected by New England in the second round of the 2018 NFL draft out of Florida. He failed to live up to his high draft status as a rookie, appearing in no games last season.

Dawson may be considered a draft bust but he’s still a second-round talent. Even if the trade does not work out, the Broncos will have only lost a sixth-round draft choice.

Dawson has recorded three tackles this preseason.

The 23-year-old cornerback will compete for playing time on defense and will likely be asked to contribute on special teams.

Denver has until Saturday afternoon to submit a 53-man roster. The team will have to make an extra transaction to make room for Dawson.
