Broncos to place 2nd-round tender on Shelby Harris

The Denver Broncos plan to place a second-round tender worth $3.095 million on defensive lineman Shelby Harris, KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis first reported Sunday. The news has since been confirmed by multiple media outlets.

Other NFL teams are still allowed to sign Harris to an offer sheet. If Harris agrees to an offer from another team, Denver will have the choice of matching that offer or letting Harris leave in exchange for a second-round pick from his new team.

This tender marks a big jump in salary for Harris, who earned just $705,000 last year. The 27-year-old defensive lineman entered the league as a seventh-round pick out of Illinois State with the Oakland Raiders in 2014.

After spending the first two years of his career in Oakland, Harris spent time with the New York Jets and Dallas Cowboys in 2016 before joining the Broncos in 2017. He has served as a rotational defensive lineman over the last two years, recording 73 tackles and seven sacks.
