Broncos to pay $9 million of Von Miller’s remaining salary

The first question asked after the Rams landed Von Miller was how they’re going to fit him under the salary cap. They had very little space to begin with, sitting there with about $5.3 million in spending money after restructuring Rob Havenstein’s contract recently.

It turns out the Broncos are lending a big helping hand in this move. According to Adam Schefter, Denver is paying $9 million of Miller’s remaining $9.7 million salary. That’s a major part of this deal for the Rams because had the Broncos not picked up that tab, Los Angeles would’ve had to make other moves in order to make it work.

The Broncos are happy to get a second- and third-round pick in this trade, helping build for the future, and they had the cap space to take on most of Miller’s remaining salary. It’s a good deal for both sides, even if Denver was forced to part with its best player of the last decade.
