Broncos TE Noah Fant will be ‘a cornerstone of this franchise’

Broncos rookie tight end Noah Fant started the season slowly through the first three weeks of the year before catching two passes for 31 yards and a touchdown in Week 4. That’s not necessarily a breakout performance, but now that Fant has his first NFL touchdown under his belt, perhaps he’ll start to become more involved on offense.

“He’s had his ups and downs, which positions out in the perimeter can have,” coach Vic Fangio said of Fant on Wednesday. “He’s had some plays that he’d like to have back, but we’ve also seen his ability and we’re really pleased to have him. I think he should be a cornerstone of this franchise moving forward.”

Fant, who was selected by Denver in the first round of April’s draft, has caught 11 passes for 130 yards and one score so far. Broncos quarterback Joe Flacco believes the tight end has gotten more comfortable each week.

“No doubt,” Flacco said Wednesday. “I think the more we go along, the more we realize the things that he does well. That’s part of it. The other part of it is getting the ball in his hands, giving him some confidence and giving him a bunch of different looks.

“Now, he’s seen four weeks of different defenses and different looks and he can kind of bank those in his memory and know how to react to them the next time he sees them.”

The rookie out of Iowa is on the right track.
