Broncos TE Jeff Heuerman (knee) might not play this week

Denver Broncos tight end Jeff Heuerman left Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts with an apparent knee injury. After the game, Heuerman was seen wearing a brace on his right leg and the tight end was using crutches, according to The Athletic’s Nicki Jhabvala.

Heuerman might not recover in time to play against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.

“We’ll see how he does [in his recovery],” coach Vic Fangio said Monday. “There’s a chance he could miss this week.”

Heuerman (6-5, 254 pounds) was selected by the Broncos in the third round of the 2015 NFL draft out of Ohio State. He has struggled to live up to his draft status, catching 57 passes for 642 yards and four touchdowns over the last four seasons.

Heuerman missed all of his rookie season with a torn ACL and he is yet to play all 16 games in a single season in his career. His best season came last year when he caught 31 passes for 281 yards and two TDs in 11 games.

With Heuerman injured, Denver’s only healthy tight ends on the roster are rookie Noah Fant and Troy Fumagalli, who has dressed for just three games in his career. Andrew Beck is listed as a fullback on the team’s depth chart but he can also play tight end.
