Broncos TE Jeff Heuerman eager to work with Joe Flacco, Rich Scangarello

After signing a two-year contract with the Denver Broncos, tight end Jeff Heuerman held a short press conference Tuesday.

“I knew it was the right decision all along,” Heuerman said of re-signing with the Broncos. “Friday when I kind of finalized it is when I went through everything and really made the decision. This is where I wanted to be. This is where my NFL career started. As a player, you want to finish where you start. That is my ultimate goal.”

Denver will have a new quarterback in Joe Flacco and a new offensive coordinator in Rich Scangarello this season. Heuerman is eager to get to work with them this offseason.

“I’m looking forward to working with some of the new guys, Joe and a new offensive coordinator. I’m excited. It’s going to be fun.”

Last year, playing in Scangarello’s offense, San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle hauled in 88 receptions for 1,377 yards and five touchdowns. Heuerman has clearly taken note of that production.

“One of the first conversations that I had was [about] what Kittle did last year,” Heuerman said. “Obviously, you look at Joe over the years and the tight ends he’s had and what they’ve done. Definitely looked at all of that.”

Heuerman caught 31 passes last year before an injury cut his season short. If he can stay healthy in 2019, Heuerman will be poised to break his career high in receptions by a large margin.
