Broncos TE Jake Butt aims to be ready for training camp

Jake Butt has suffered ACL tears three times during his football career — once in high school, once in college and once in the NFL.

The latest tear happened last September when the Broncos’ tight end went down during practice leading up to the fourth game of the season. He’s been making progress in his recovery and plans to be ready when the team begins training camp on July 18.

“I haven’t had any setbacks, so that’s been great — it’s been a steady climb,” Butt told The Denver Post‘s Ryan O’Halloran last week. “It’s obviously a long process, but I feel really close. At this point, it’s getting back into football shape and to where I feel good every day.”

Because the tight end missed his entire rookie season in 2017, this year will technically be considered his second season in the NFL. He caught eight passes for 85 yards in three games last year before tearing his ACL.

If he can stay healthy, Butt will be among the favorites to win one of Denver’s top two tight end positions this summer.
