Broncos still have most Super Bowl wins among AFC West teams

Following the Kansas City Chiefs’ 31-20 win over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV on Sunday, the Denver Broncos are no longer the most recent AFC West team to have won a Super Bowl.

Following the 2015 season — five years ago — Denver defeated the Carolina Panthers 24-10 in Super Bowl 50. Before that, the Broncos won Super Bowl XXXIII in 1999 and Super Bowl XXXII in 1998 — three titles in 18 years.

As for the Chiefs, their last Super Bowl win before Sunday came in 1970, 50 years ago. Kansas City defeated the Minnesota Vikings 23-7 in Super Bowl IV, marking their first Super Bowl victory.

Elsewhere in the division, the Los Angeles Chargers have never won a Super Bowl, though they did reach the Big Game in 1994. San Francisco defeated the Chargers 49-26 in Super Bowl XXIX 26 years ago.

The Las Vegas (formerly Oakland) Raiders have won two Super Bowls (XI and XV) but their most recent title came in 1980, 40 years ago.

Denver no longer has the most recent Super Bowl win but the Broncos still have the most Super Bowl wins (three) among AFC West teams.
