Broncos still have 3 rookies left to sign

The Denver Broncos have signed three members of their 2019 NFL draft class to four-year contracts so far: tight end Noah Fant, linebacker Justin Hollins and wide receiver Juwann Winfree.

After signing those rookies (and reworking cornerback Chris Harris’ contract), the team has $5,439,683 in remaining salary cap space, according to NFLPA totals accessed Monday.

A large portion of that remaining cap space will go toward the team’s three remaining unsigned rookies: offensive lineman Dalton Risner, quarterback Drew Lock and defensive lineman Dre’Mont Jones.

Projections from Spotrac.com predict that those rookies will have salary cap hits of $1,295,534 (Risner), $1,271,722 (Lock) and $760,585 (Jones) this season. Based on those projections, the Broncos are set to use about $3,327,841 in cap space on those three players.

That will leave the team with $2,111,842 (or more) in remaining salary cap space, depending on who those players bump off the list of top-51 players currently counting against the team’s cap.

If Denver does not use that $2 million-plus in 2019, it will roll over into the team’s 2020 salary cap total. The Broncos rolled over about $8 million of unused 2018 cap to their 2019 total this year.
