Broncos sign WR Steven Dunbar Jr., fill 90-man roster

After wide receiver Aaron Burbridge unexpectedly retired on the eve of training camp, the Denver Broncos found themselves with an opening on the 90-man offseason roster.

To take Burbridge’s spot on the roster, the Broncos have signed second-year wide receiver Steven Dunbar Jr., the team announced Thursday.

Dunbar (6-3, 202 pounds) hauled in 76 receptions for 1,070 yards and scored three touchdowns as a senior at Houston in 2017. He then signed with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent.

Dunbar dressed for just one game with the 49ers last season, spending the rest of the year on the team’s practice squad. He has experience playing under Broncos offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello, who coached in San Francisco last season.

Dunbar will wear jersey No. 13, the number worn by Burbridge this spring. Wide receiver Kenny Bell wore that number last offseason but did not make the team’s 53-man roster. Former quarterback Trevor Siemian wore No. 13 from 2015-2017.
