Broncos sign two players

The Denver Broncos have signed cornerback Trey Johnson and offensive lineman Jake Brendel, the team announced Thursday. Denver created two spots on the roster after waiving cornerback Craig Mager and offensive lineman Andreas Knappe earlier this week.

Johnson (5-11, 170 pounds) entered the league as a college free agent out of Villanova with the Pittsburgh Steelers last year. He spent his rookie season on the team’s injured reserve list. Johnson is entering his second year in the NFL.

Brendel (6-4, 299 pounds) also entered the league as a college free agent, signing with the Dallas Cowboys out of UCLA following the 2016 NFL draft. After failing to make the Cowboys’ 53-man roster as a rookie, Brendel signed with the Miami Dolphins.

Brendel dressed for 21 games in Miami over the last three years, earning three starts (two at left guard and one at center). His versatility could help his chances of making Denver’s 53-man roster.

The Broncos will have to trim their roster from 90 players down to 53 players after the preseason concludes in September.
