Broncos sign TE Moral Stephens, waive punter Justin Vogel

The Denver Broncos have signed tight end Moral Stephens, the team announced Saturday. To make room for Stephens on the 90-man offseason roster, the Broncos waived punter Justin Vogel.

Vogel’s time with the team was shortlived — he was signed on Tuesday and cut on Saturday. This likely means Colby Wadman has the team’s punting job locked down.

As for Stephens (6-4, 247 pounds), he is a rookie out of Florida who caught 15 passes for 261 yards and three touchdowns during his 40 games with the Gators. Based on his stats, it seems like Stephens was primarily used as a blocking tight end and on special teams.

Denver needed to add more depth at tight end with Jake Butt (ACL recovery) and Bug Howard (ankle) sidelined. Stephens could make his Bronco debut in the Hall of Fame Game on Aug. 1.

Stephens signed with the Buffalo Bills as a college free agent in May but was cut in June. He will wear jersey No. 88 in Denver.
