Broncos sign cornerback Bryce Callahan to a three-year contract

The Denver Broncos have added a second defensive back through free agency, this time agreeing to terms on a three-year deal with former Chicago Bears cornerback Bryce Callahan.

It was a move that made plenty of sense for both sides, as Callahan will now reunite with Vic Fangio. Undrafted out of Rice in 2015, he is coming off his best season as a professional. Callahan registered 45 tackles, two interceptions and two sacks last season as a member of a busy Bears defense.

The Broncos had been quiet in free agency after making moves for Kareem Jackson and Ja’Wuan James, giving both players lucrative contracts. James will become the highest-paid right tackle in the league.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the three-year deal is worth $21 million with $10 million in guarantees.

With the additions of Jackson and Callahan, the Broncos have more than made up for the loss of Bradley Roby, who signed with the Houston Texans. The two new defensive backs will join Chris Harris and Isaac Yiadom to give the team some solid depth heading into the 2019 season.

For his career, Callahan has played in 45 games and he has four interceptions in addition to 21 pass deflections.

He is coming off of a broken foot that cut his 2018 season short. Still, the Broncos made a move here that fans have to love. His familiarity with Fangio and Ed Donatell makes this a great signing this deep into the free agent signing period.
