Broncos sign AAF interception leader De’Vante Bausby

The Alliance of American Football appears to be going the way of the USFL and the United Football League and will likely soon fold. But if there is any good news to take from the AAF, it’s that a handful of players will get to continue their playing careers based on the performance they put on the field.

One of those players will be De’Vante Bausby, a cornerback signed by the Denver Broncos on Thursday. NFL Draft Diamonds was the first to report the news.

Bausby, who was playing for the AAF’s San Antonio Commanders, was tied for the league lead with four interceptions.

Undrafted out of Pittsburg State in 2015, Bausby spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs (two stints), Chicago Bears and Philadelphia Eagles before getting a chance to continue his career in a new league.

Bausby has played in 10 games in his NFL career, making one start for the Eagles in 2018. He has 26 career tackles.

A lengthy cornerback at 6-2 and 190 pounds, Bausby’s 37.5-inch vertical jump at his pro day prior to the 2015 draft was more than notable.

Damond Talbot of Draft Diamonds notes that at least eight teams were interested in Bausby’s services.

The Broncos have a need for depth at the cornerback position so this could be a terrific under-the-radar move. Though it’s only April and the draft has yet to take place, Bausby could be a darkhorse candidate to land a spot on the team’s final 53-man roster.
