Broncos sign 5 players to tenders

The Denver Broncos have officially signed five players to tenders, the team announced Tuesday.

Defensive lineman Shelby Harris signed his one-year restricted free agent tender and linebacker Joe Jones, offensive lineman Elijah Wilkinson, wide receiver Tim Patrick and safety Dymonte Thomas signed one-year exclusive rights tenders.

The players on exclusive rights tenders had no leverage in negotiations — there options were to sign or sit out the season. Patrick will earn $570,000 in 2019. Wilkinson, Thomas and Jones will earn $645,000, a higher salary because they have more experience than Patrick,

Harris received the richest contract, worth $3,095,000. Another NFL team could make him a better offer but Denver would be given the option to match that offer since the team placed a tender on Harris.

If a team makes Harris an offer that the Broncos do not match, that team would have to send a second-round draft pick to Denver as compensation. That seems unlikely to happen.

The Broncos can carry 90 players on their offseason roster.
