Broncos select OL Cody Ford in Doug Farrar’s NFL mock draft 4.0

In his latest 2019 NFL mock draft, Touchdown Wire’s Doug Farrar has the Denver Broncos selecting Oklahoma offensive lineman Cody Ford with the 10th overall pick in the first round. This is a change from Farrar’s last mock, which had the team landing Mississippi wide receiver D.K. Metcalf.

Here is Farrar’s explanation for the Ford selection:

“The need at quarterback is obvious here in the long term, but let’s say that John Elway and his crew don’t like any of the remaining quarterbacks enough to take one 10th overall,” Farrar wrote.

“Dwayne Haskins might not be mobile enough for Denver’s offense, and guys like Drew Lock and Daniel Jones are projects to a point. If that’s the case, a Broncos offensive line that has been problematic for a long time would be helped by Ford, an athletic marvel with the potential to play tackle or guard at a very high level.”

Given that the Broncos seem to believe Joe Flacco still has a lot of gas left in the tank, it’s reasonable to assume the team may not be going all-in on a quarterback in this year’s class.

And after losing center Matt Paradis to the Carolina Panthers during free agency, Denver could certainly use another guard (Connor McGovern is expected to move from guard to center). Ford may be viewed as more of a tackle than a guard, though, so the Broncos may not consider him at No. 10.

Ford is the third-best offensive tackle in this year’s class, according to Draft Wire’s Luke Easterling (view the complete rankings here).
