Broncos safety Will Parks out several weeks with broken thumb

Broncos safety Will Parks broke his left thumb during Thursday’s 30-6 loss to the Chiefs, according to KMGH-TV’s Troy Renck. The defensive back said he will need surgery and hopes to return after three weeks.

This will be a blow to Denver’s depth both at safety and cornerback.

Parks is the No. 3 safety on the Broncos’ depth chart and he’s also the team’s backup nickelback. He spent time at nickelback the last two weeks as a replacement for Duke Dawson, who is recovering from a foot injury.

Parks (6-1, 208 pounds) was selected by Denver in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL draft out of Arizona. He totaled 17 tackles and broke up one pass through seven games this season. With Parks expected to miss a few weeks, the Broncos will likely bring in another safety.

The only healthy safeties on the roster at the moment are Justin Simmons, Kareem Jackson and Trey Marshall.
