Broncos safety Justin Simmons aiming for Pro Bowl nod in 2019

Broncos safety Justin Simmons has shown improvement in each of his first three years in Denver. As a rookie, he was a rotational defensive back that totaled 30 tackles and two interceptions.

In his second season, Simmons won a starting job and his tackle count rose to 68 and he notched a pair of interceptions again. In 2018, Simmons had a career year with 71 tackles and three interceptions.

Simmons will be looking to see his numbers go up again in 2019 and he’s aiming to reach the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career.

“That’s always a personal goal of mine in the back of my mind,” Simmons said on July 25. “We talk about all the time, the plays that you make out here in camp are the plays that you’re going to make during the regular season.

“It’s great the plays you are making now. But what counts is that first game in Oakland and so forth, for the next 15 games. I’m just trying to build, build, build, build so it becomes easy in the regular season.”

Simmons has looked great in camp but — as he noted — it’s what he does in games that matters. If he has success in Vic Fangio’s defense, Simmons may have a realistic shot to reach the All-Star game this season.
