Broncos’ Ring of Fame nod ‘means the world’ to Champ Bailey

The Denver Broncos announced Monday that former cornerback Champ Bailey has been voted into the team’s Ring of Fame. Bailey, who will also be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in August, is the 33rd member to enter the team’s Ring of Fame.

Bailey is the Broncos’ first defensive player to be voted into the Ring of Fame since former linebacker Simon Fletcher and ex-safety John Lynch made it in 2016. He’s also Denver’s first ever defender to reach the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

“I was excited,” Bailey said during a conference call with reporters on May 20. “I have to be honest, I expected it at some point, maybe. But at the same time — that’s just my objective thinking — but at the same time, it’s out of my hands. I never dwell on things I can’t control or worry about them.

“It’s like, when it happens, it still catches me off guard. I’m just so grateful that the Broncos consider me part of the family and [are] willing to put my name all over the stadium. It means the world to me, and it makes me feel good inside.”

Bailey’s Ring of Fame induction ceremony will take place at the Broncos’ stadium during halftime of a contest against the Tennessee Titans on Oct. 13. Bailey and owner Pat Bowlen will also receive their Hall of Fame rings at halftime of that same game.
