Broncos resting most starters vs. Rams on Saturday

If you were hoping to see Jared Goff against Joe Flacco on Saturday night at the Coliseum, we have some bad news. As expected, the Los Angeles Rams are resting all of their primary starters for the typically important preseason “dress rehearsal” game. And as it turns out, the Broncos will do the same.

Having played three preseason games already – thanks to the Hall of Fame Game earlier this month – the Broncos are keeping their starters on the sideline, too. So instead of Goff vs. Flacco, we’ll get Blake Bortles vs. Kevin Hogan.

Sean McVay probably would’ve preferred to see the Broncos’ starters out there as a way to test his young players. For instance, Bobby Evans and David Edwards would’ve benefited from facing Von Miller and Bradley Chubb off the edge, giving them a taste of what stud pass rushers are like in the NFL.

It’s hard to blame the Broncos for resting their top players, though. They’ve already played three preseason games and with so many veterans on both sides of the ball, there’s little need to put them in harm’s way again.
