Broncos reach 21-year stadium naming rights agreement with Empower Retirement

The Denver Broncos have reached a 21-year agreement with Empower Retirement to name the team’s stadium Empower Field at Mile High through the 2039 season, according to a report from KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis.

Terms of the deal are not yet known.

Empower Retirement is a Greenwood Village-based Great-West Life & Annuity Insurance Company that earned Retirement Leader of the Year honors at the Mutual Fund Industry Awards in 2016. The company’s website says it is used by 9.2 million individuals.

The Broncos were paid around $6 million a year BY Sports Authority for naming rights from 2011-2016 before the company went bankrupt. The team temporarily dubbed the venue “Broncos Stadium at Mile High” in 2018.

The stadium opened in 2001 as Invesco Field and replaced Mile High Stadium, which had no naming rights partner.

The most lucrative naming rights deals in the United States are for MetLife Stadium (2010-2036, $425 million-$625 million), Chase Center (2016-2040, $300 million -$400 million) and Citi Field (2006-2028, $400 million) according to the Sports Business Journal.

The Broncos’ new naming rights deal will help the team pay for upkeep and improvements for the facility. The stadium will need several upgrades if Denver is going to host 2026 World Cup matches.
